The Saint John Rapids are proud to announce that forward Riley Bissett has committed to the University of Detroit Mercy, continuing his lacrosse journey at the NCAA Division I level. The Charlottetown, P.E.I. native has been a force in the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League (ECJLL) and will now take his talents to the Titans program.
Bissett had a breakout 2024 season with the Rapids, finishing second in the league in goals (35) and seventh in points (60) while playing in all 21 games. His standout performance earned him ECJLL Rookie of the Year honors, solidifying his status as one of the top young talents in Atlantic Canada. His ability to produce in key moments was highlighted by his 10 power-play goals, two shorthanded markers, and a game-winner.
His commitment to the sport has been evident throughout his career. Bissett’s extensive resume includes appearances at the U20 Team Canada Development Camp, the U19 and U18 Field Nationals with Team PEI, and the 2022 Canada Summer Games. He also gained high-level box experience playing for the U17 Jr. Thunderbirds at the Jr. NLL Cup and representing Team Nova Scotia at Box Nationals in 2019.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Bissett has been an inspiration to young lacrosse players in Prince Edward Island. Known for his dedication to the game, he is often found at the rink or on the field sharing his knowledge, from wall ball routines to stick-stringing techniques. His passion for lacrosse is contagious, making him a role model for the next generation of LPEI athletes.
As he takes the next step in his career with Detroit Mercy, Bissett will look to bring his goal-scoring prowess and relentless work ethic to the Titans. The Rapids organization congratulates Riley on this exciting opportunity and looks forward to watching him excel at the NCAA level.
