Male Rapids Bounce Back in Style, Earn Weekend Split Against Sackville Wolves

Jun. 15, 2026

The Saint John Rapids men's team showed exactly why they remain one of the ECJLL's top contenders this past weekend, displaying resilience, character, and determination in a home-and-home series against the Sackville Wolves.

After suffering a setback on Saturday night, the Rapids responded in impressive fashion less than 24 hours later, earning a hard-fought victory over the Wolves and proving once again that this group knows how to answer adversity.

Saturday's matchup saw the Rapids run into a determined Sackville squad that capitalized on its opportunities and handed Saint John one of its toughest tests of the season. While the result did not go the Rapids' way, there were still plenty of positives to take from the contest.

Saint John continued to generate offensive opportunities throughout the game and never stopped battling despite facing a Wolves team that executed well in key moments. The Rapids received contributions throughout the lineup, with several players finding the scoresheet and helping keep the game competitive. Chase Aldridge scored a hat trick of highlight real goals, only to have each called back for a crease violation.

Even as momentum shifted in Sackville's favour, the Rapids continued to push the pace and create chances until the final whistle. Sawyer King and Drew Mason both bent the twine twice and added two apples each to lead the offence. Ethan Rowbotham stood tall with the defensive back end led by veterans Morgan MacKinnon, Ayden McAustlin and Tyler Weldon, but without the offense able to rally, the Wolves hung on for the V.

This Rapids’ defeat marked an unusual challenge for a team that has enjoyed tremendous success throughout the season, but the response that followed demonstrated the maturity and leadership within the Rapids locker room.

Returning to the floor on Sunday, Saint John looked like a team determined to make a statement.

From the opening faceoff, the Rapids played with urgency and energy. The ball movement was crisp, the transition game was effective, and the defensive effort was relentless. Every loose ball seemed to be contested, every possession carried purpose, and the team played with the confidence that has defined much of its season.

The offence came alive early as the Rapids established momentum and forced the Wolves onto their heels. Contributions came from throughout the lineup, highlighting one of Saint John's greatest strengths: its depth. Whether it was the team's veteran leaders producing in key moments or younger players stepping up when called upon, the Rapids received contributions from every area of the floor. Sawyer King remained hot with a huge 9 point game, seeing 2 goals and 7 assists. Only to be equalled by teammate Ben Rooney who also saw a 9 point afternoon with five goals and four assists. Drew mason loomed large with a hat trick and a 6 point game. Rookie Adrien Mosher showed poise, scoring 4 goals with an additional helper.

The defensive effort was equally impressive. After reviewing Saturday's performance, the Rapids made key adjustments and executed them effectively on Sunday. The defensive unit welcomed back veteran Adam Brooks who had been out of the line up the day before. The game also saw goaltender Ondrej Hajek make his ECJLL debut. With his large frame and acrobatic saves, he fit in well with his defensive core who communicated well, limited quality scoring opportunities, and worked tirelessly to support the goaltending. The result was a far more complete team performance that allowed Saint John to control much of the game.

Special teams also played an important role throughout the weekend. The Rapids continued to pressure opponents in transition and found ways to create momentum through disciplined play. Those details often make the difference in tightly contested games, and Saint John's attention to them was evident throughout Sunday's victory.

With another important win added to their record and valuable lessons learned along the way, the Rapids now turn their attention to the next challenge. If Sunday's performance was any indication, Saint John remains a team that will be difficult to beat as the race toward the playoffs continues.
